Color Test Charts Frequently Ask Questions

A calorimeter is used to measure heat that is gained or lost during a chemical or physical reaction. A sample is taken in an insulated container, and a temperature change is measured. This assists in computing the alterations in energy by the equation Q = mcΔT, where Q is heat.

A powder coated surface is most commonly measured for thickness post curing using a digital coating thickness gauge. This method is non-destructive, helps verify coverage uniformity and meets quality control standards. A powder comb gauge is used to estimate thickness for a pre-cured coating.

To operate the haze meter, first calibrate the instrument, clean the sample, position it correctly in the holder, and initiate the measurement. The instrument then shows the haze and overall transmittance readings.

Colorimeters or spectrophotometers are used to measure liquid color. They measure light coming through or reflecting off the liquid. Readings can be reported as Lab*, RGB, or absorbance units. So that objective color analysis can be used to control quality, or to measure chemical concentration.

  1. Turn on the hazemeter and check if the instrument’s display screen shows normally and if the buttons are responsive.

  2. Verify that the hazemeter’s battery power is sufficient. Replace the battery or connect an external power supply if necessary.

  3.  Confirm that the instrument’s measurement mode is set correctly. Select the appropriate measurement unit and range based on actual needs.

Make sure the light sources are calibrated, keep extraneous light sources away, have the correct viewing angles, and handle the samples in a clean and uniform manner.

Since part of the light will pass through the light-transmitting materials, the colorimeter is not suitable for color measurement of such kinds of materials; however, when place a pure color material with uniform texture under the light-transmitting material, we can measure the color difference between the standard and the sample.

The measurement of color varies according to context in several units. Such common units are L*a*b* (CIELAB), RGB (Red-Green-Blue), and color difference (Delta E). In light absorption, there are no units assigned to absorbance. But the quantitative analysis of absorbance obeys Beer's Law in colorimetry.

Measuring zinc coating thickness is most commonly using magnetic induction. The gauge measures how far the magnetic probes are to the metal base under the zinc. This is the most reliable way to measure the thickness and the preservation of the galvanization.
